Buno Behen

Buno Behen- is co-founded by Maithili Chodankar-Rault, a sustainable fashion and living advocate since 2016 and an active member of a climate activism group, Let India Breathe. Buno Behen- when translated is weave sister, and through the label, Maithili and her team hope to weave a fabric of sisterhood that stands in solidarity with Indian crafts and craftswomen.

Buno Behen is a convergence of all the influences in Maithili's life and is an extension of her values, travels, love for Indian handicrafts, and her conscious decision to live a less impactful life. Buno Behen creates upcycled and handmade collections that aim to uplift the lives of women artisans through traditional Indian crafts.

Buno Behen products crafted from deadstock fabrics use no virgin materials for their designs. Their design process starts with the artisans and is adapted to suit their skill sets. For this, the brand works closely with Sewa Abodana, a women-owned and women-run handicraft social enterprise; South Asia Foundation, a foundation that works to develop a sustainable model at a grassroots capacity to uplift women socially and economically and SAF Goa, a foundation that provides training in skill development and upskilling with a focus on women artisans.

Buno Behen is a convergence of all the influences in her life, and every meaning is an extension of Maithili and her values, travels, love for Indian handicrafts, and conscious decision to live a less impactful life. Thus, Buno Behen creates upcycled and handmade collections that aim to uplift the lives of women artisans through traditional Indian crafts.
