Dāk India is woman-owned and led by Urvashi, a design graduate from NIFT, Mumbai. The brand came into existence in 2021 through social platforms, with the idea to learn and explore the possibilities of handwoven textiles and create essential home goods out of them. Urvashi wanted to create a model with achievable sustainable production, so she introduced the upcycled collections that use the fabric offcuts generated during sampling. Urvashi is also passionate about fair trade and one of her core values is to support artisans and makers whilst providing a fair living wage.
Urvashi has travelled extensively to weaving clusters to learn and understand materials, weaving and production techniques. Though now settled in Dharamshala to be near artisans to ensure quality and support her artisans, Urvashi and Dak India began their story in Rajasthan where she worked with NGO.
