Hand-woven on a traditional loom called ‘rachchh’, hand-knotted, and hand-dyed, these unique pieces are made from 100% Lahauli wool. The wool is from Rambouillet sheep, a type of Merino and the indigenous Gaddi breed. Our partners source the wool directly from the shepherding communities from different villages within the Lahaul Valley.

The wool is spun, woven and dyed all by hand. The only machine process is carding, i.e. disentangling, cleaning and intermixing fibres to produce a continuous web or sliver suitable for subsequent processing. The fibres are then dyed using locally and seasonally available berries, fruits, tree barks and vegetables like onion skins and walnut skins.

The whole process of creating ‘desi oon’ spans many months of hard work that begins with proper care of the herd and culminates in the hands of our artisan community, who then creates pure magic that then becomes our luxurious bespoke shawls.

Kullvi Whims is a self-help group [SHG] formed by nine women artisans of Naggar village in Kullu Valley. The women are all traditional artisans, who learnt their craft practices of spinning, weaving, knitting and crochet from their family members and have mostly practised their crafts for themselves, weaving pattus and blankets or knitting sweaters, mojiris and socks.
